About the role
Are you a keen gardener with a love for rooftop gardens, planter boxes and pot plants?
107 Projects is looking for a casual volunteer Gardening Assistant who can help with the upkeep of our existing permaculture rooftop garden. Located in the heart of Redfern and above 107 Projects bustling creative hub sits a rooftop oasis that requires ongoing care from a passionate gardener with basic green thumb experience. The rooftop garden is a safe green space accessible to all community members, the right person will continue connecting the garden to its community by encouraging others to enjoy the space, having social chats, and providing gardening tips where possible.
The Gardening Assistant will be on hand to help with growing and cultivating various plant varieties, herbs and a thriving fishpond. This role reports to the Head of Gardening and Gardening Coordinator.
Experience & Primary Responsibilities
- Maintain the permaculture garden
- Introducing new plant varieties
- Responsible for cutting, pruning, potting and watering
- Responsible for feeding fish and maintaining the aquaponic system / fishpond
- Safe treatment and oiling of rooftop decks / seating
- Liaise with new casual volunteers
- Maintain pot plants throughout the building
- Maintain planter boxes at street front
Essential Criteria
- Experience in gardening and maintenance
- Experience in sustainable practices and compost
Required Skills/Traits
- Great social skills
- Can work independently and collaboratively
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in landscaping
- Knowledge in aquaponics, permaculture, and horticulture
- Knowledgeable in non-toxic chemicals and ecosystems
Remuneration
As a volunteer position, the volunteer agrees to perform tasks of their own free will, no remuneration is to be given. From time to time there may be access to free tickets, opportunities and invitations to participate in programs and events.
