The Bower Repair Cafe

TYPE: WORKSHOP

WHEN: 11am-2pm – 2 Apr 2016

COST: FREE

The Bower opened the first Repair Café in Australia in 2014. Operating every Wednesday afternoon, from 1pm – 4pm at The Bower, numerous technicians are on hand to advise and assist members of the community to fix dodgy small electrical items, rickety tables and chairs, and wobbly bicycles. It’s so popular that we now take the Repair Café ‘on the road’ to councils, community centres and festivals, offering our services to residents in all parts of Sydney in order to avoid items going to landfill. Residents are invited to bring their own broken lamps, chair or bike. We take time to explain the repair process to every participant, helping them to learn new skills and understand the benefits in repairing and reusing.

NOW they are coming to 107  Projects as a part of our annual open day, OPEN 107

Small Electricals Repair Café
From lamps to stereo equipment, vintage desk fans and radios to remote control cars……..our electrical technicians have fixed them all. Sometimes a simple re-soldering of a join or replacing a dodgy plug is all that’s needed to get those electrical goods working again. If we can’t fix it, we can safely recycle it through e-waste collections.

Timber Furniture Repair Café
Chairs, stools and side tables are the most common timber items brought to the Repair Café for a quick fix. Our woodworkers explain the process of fixing the item to show how simple it can be to restore a broken item to functional furniture.

Bicycle Repair Café (and maintenance)
Our bicycle mechanics are experts in getting you back on two wheels. A quick tune-up of the gears, patching up a puncture or realigning the wheels – it’s all part of the service.

This is also a part of OPEN 107
