This is a fun charity group singalong with the original music and vocals from famous songs you love. Just some mics, speakers, the lyrics projected on a screen, and drinks. Everybody sings!
COVID-SAFE: We use disposable mic covers every song.
Q: What's the format?
There are guest mics for one or more people leading a song, and one for the MC. People take turns to lead the crowd through their favourite songs chosen from our song-list, with scrolling lyrics videos projected on a screen. Everybody may sing - whether holding a mic or not - and ALL singing levels are most welcome. This is not karaoke-style, this is a true group singalong with a full sound setup.
Q: Do I have to be able to sing well?
No, all levels are welcome! If you don't wish to lead a song on a mic just enjoy singing along with the crowd.
Q: How do I buy tickets?
Online from Humanitix (with an optional charity donation) or bring $20 cash as entry fee towards the venue hire. This gives you hours of enjoyment and is much cheaper than just a karaoke room (and better, too).
You may also make a further cash donation on the night to our chosen charity, the Heart Research Institute (HRI). Have a heart, have a sing!
Q: Are there drinks?
Yes! You can buy alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks from the bar. (BYO is not permitted.)
Q: Is there food DURING the event?
No. Please eat well beforehand, food is not allowed in the venue. There are lots of great restaurants and pubs with food nearby.
Q: What songs can we choose from?
This Dropbox link has our official lyrics video song list:
We'll also be featuring some songs from Olivia Newton-John this time as a tribute, and some Xmas songs. Costumes welcome!
Q: How to get there?
It's best to use public transport to Redfern Station. Easy! And better if you drink. There is usually some parking in the side-streets off Redfern St.
Your host is Darren Kelly (PLAY) of Bondi, a former musician/performer who these days just likes to sing music from other actually famous musicians and bands. His favourite band of all time is Supertramp and his favourite singer of all time is Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders. PLAY just loves encouraging everybody to sing!
