In February, legendary musician Michael Rother of krautrock duo Neu! will tour Australia. To kick off the tour, Michael Rother has agreed to join us for an artist talk in Sydney. This free event will not only be compelling for krautrock fans, but also those who are interested in how the music scene has developed over the last decades.

About Michael Rother:

In addition to Neu!, Rother was a member of an early version of Kraftwerk, formed Harmonia, has released more than ten solo albums, and has jammed with members of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mars Volta, Sonic Youth and Can. But it was particularly his iconic duo Neu! with Klaus Dinger that has influenced artists such as David Bowie, Radiohead, Stereolab, Joy Division & New Order, Damon Albarn, Brian Eno, and countless others.

Many years after they originally came out, famous German pop singer Herbert Grönemeier decided to re-release all Neu! albums on his label Groenland Records. For the debut’s 50th anniversary, the label recently released a box set including a tribute album featuring reworks and covers by The National, Idles, Mogwai, New Order, Hot Chip, Yann Tiersen and more.
Curious? Please join us for this free-entry event on the day before the tour begins. As the Washington Post put it recently: ‘Neu! created a rhythm that’s still beating 50 years later.'

About Krautrock:

Krautrock is a specific genre of music that developed in Germany in the early 1970s. Artists like Neu!, Can, Faust, Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk combined psychedelic rock with avant-garde and electronic music. The most recognisable Neu! feature was the use of repetitive ‘motorik’ rhythms played by drummer Klaus Dinger, who passed away in 2008.
