Explore the stories of the local community, with a special preview of artist Jamie Gray’s exhibition ‘Instances’, a unique community photography project highlighting the human connection that we all share, and build upon a community map with your own special instance. Cruise into the evening with some jazz, presented by 107 Residents Sydney Improvised Music Association.
Enter into The Dark Side of the Map, a talk by GIS specialist Stella Blake Kelly, navigating ethics in the age of big location data, and exploring how you are contributing to more maps than you realise. Make your own printed maps with The Rizzeria, customising your own local story on a postcard, and listen to local tunes from Shalane Connors and Kay Proudlove.
Join us for a special talk by Margaret Betteridge, curator of Cartographica, to hear about the learnings and process of mapmaking and the different ways we navigate and represent our city. Enjoy live music, presented by Red Dog Studio Sessions, bringing their growing network of lovable rogues on the road to the wider community. Hear poetry and folk collide with CloudBird, haunting indie tunes from Matt Thomson and experimental art pop with Dream Good.
Jump into a special edition of your favourite creative hangout Art Somewhere, with guest facilitator Dr Michelle Catanzaro. Explore the idea of 'persuasive cartography', delving into the personal and subjective places we live, work and play. Through collage and illustrative techniques, you can craft your own maps of the ‘local’. We welcome all experience levels and abilities, and provide the materials, so you can play, while you listen to tunes from local talents.
