During the Makers Play Lab STEAM Camp, makers will have the opportunity to play, design, code, and create in the second week of the July School Holidays. They will develop problem solving skills and creative confidence as they explore advanced STEAM (Science. Technology. Arts. Engineering. Maths) concepts through hands-on design and digital challenges.

Ages: 6 - 13 year olds

*Makers Play Lab facilitators are qualified teachers who will differentiate the project skill level based on the diverse learning needs of your child. Workshop numbers are strictly capped at 12 children to ensure quality learning experiences and one on one mentoring as needed.

Time: 9.00am - 3.00pm (Parents are required to sign in their child every morning, afternoon car pick up is available)

Location: Joynton Avenue Creative Centre - Cnr Hansard St and Joynton Avenue, Zetland 2017

Play time: Play is scheduled throughout the day with open green spaces, playground equipment and court space

STEAM Camp Details

Day 1: Monday, July 15

Lego Robotics Workshop: Makers will explore scientific and engineering concepts through building, creating and coding innovative solutions to design challenges using lego robotics and visual programming software. They will work through a series of guided projects structured to ignite curiosity, helping makers develop essential communication, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking-skills in a fun and exciting way. Advanced coders will be offered open projects to meet their skill set. *The projects change each workshop to avoid repeat for makers who have attended before.

Day 2: Tuesday, July 16

Bits + Bots Workshop: Makers will work their way through a series of STEAM challenges requiring them to design, build, code and create solutions to every day problems. They will learn how to code a basic micro bit using visual programming language. Makers will complete robotics challenges and create 'life hacks' inventions using simple circuits and little bits electronics. They will be given time to pursue a project of their choice using a range of the technology explored. Advanced coders will be offered open projects to meet their skill set.

Day 3: Wednesday, July 17

Creative Claymation Workshop: Makers will gain the necessary skills to make clay characters and learn the art of stop motion to create their own animations. They will learn to sculpt clay characters, plan and storyboard their own original narratives, design and create their own sets all whilst learning the art of creating a stop motion animation. Makers will learn the digital literacy skills needed to edit, upload and export their animation to video editing software for publishing.

Cost of each workshop: $130 per day + Eventbrite booking fee on all tickets. Creative Kids Vouchers and booking deposits are also available, this ticket option requires a deposit payment and voucher number to complete the transaction. Ticket purchases must be finalised and paid in full through Eventbrite prior to the event.

Cancellations and refunds are not available, tickets may be transferred to another child at the organisation of the parent.

Using a Creative Kids Voucher: Creative Kids Vouchers must be submitted with the purchase of deposit tickets in order to finalise the full payment. There are no refunds or transfers for Creative Kids vouchers submitted. What to bring: Morning tea, lunch, water bottle, wear sunscreen and a hat (all meals must be nut free)

Special requirements: If your child has a specific medical need, please provide us with a copy of a current medical action plan and instructions together with written permission for administering medication if required, inclusive of epipen and asthma puffers.
