This July at 107 Projects, the dreamweavers at Matriark Theatre deliver a brand new season of their acclaimed production, GODFACE, that premiered at The Old 505 Theatre as part of the 2015 FreshWorks program.

Puppets and politics combine in this hilarious and fast paced satire. GODFACE is political critique at its most animalistic. Under the focussed direction of Matriark founder Creative Director, Scott Parker, the cast of 5 performers play 23 characters, many are hand-made masks and puppets created exclusively for the show by designer Aleisa Jelbart. In pure Matriark fashion (once described as The Mighty Booch meets Adventure Time) GODFACE is a tripped out, satirical farce full of prop and physical comedy, puppetry and music to tell this extraordinary tale about power, desire and the dirty game of politics.

GODFACE is a Holy City built and ruled and populated by half-animal gods. Pippa, a young outsider from the wastelands beyond, arrives in the city at the very same time that GODFACE is preparing for a once-in-a-lifetime event – the election of a new Prime God. Like in any good (or evil!) election there will be scheming, manipulating, back-stabbing and scandal. Pippa and her moths will be tangled up in this dangerous tussle for the top job, with the nefarious Swansea and New God as her main rivals. Who will come out on top?

In this election year, Matriark Theatre brings Sydney an election unlike any other! A complex and immersive world brought to life in this unique and stunning piece of social critique and visual storytelling.

Matriark Theatre Inc develops unorthodox and compelling, new theatrical works that reimagine traditional forms of storytelling, by combining old and new theatre forms, stories and technologies - a theatre-mashup of puppets, masks, dancing and acrobatics framed with a beautiful, unique, homespun aesthetic. Since its inception Matriark have worked with numerous theatrical partners including Casula Powerhouse, Parramatta Riverside and Monkey Baa and have performed at over 30 different schools. In 2014 the critically-acclaimed HalfWorld enjoyed sold out seasons at 107 Projects, WOW Children’s Festival and Casula Powerhouse and will in 2017 tour the country with producer Critical Stages who have also engaged Matriark in a year-long mentorship and residency in 2016.

"Brilliant, funny, emotional, experiential physical theatre. Matriark Theatre has created a wonderful experience.”
