Australian Classics: Walkabout & Summerfield

In Walkabout (1971), two young siblings are stranded in the Australian Outback and are forced to cope on their own. They meet an Australian boy on "walkabout": a ritual separation from his tribe. Walkabout is regarded as one of the earliest works of the Australian New Wave, and is known for its bold, dreamlike exploration of the Australian outback and the deep spiritual bonds between the land and its original occupants.

Summerfield (1977) tells the story of a teacher who arrives in a small seaside community. When he discovers that his predecessor vanished without a trace, and that one of his students has a rare blood disorder, he is drawn into a mystery that culminates in a thrilling climax.
