Drawing Fundamentals

Robbie Karmel presents a ten-week course that introduces students to a wide range of drawing methods, materials, and subjects Students will build up a practical and conceptual tool-kit of skills and ways of approaching different subjects. Time will be allocated to still life compositions, drawing figures and portraits with a model, working from photographs, and working with experimental mark making processes. Students will be introduced to a range of materials including pencil, pen, charcoal, and ink. This course will provide a broad introduction to drawing, and provide students with a taste of many different techniques, ways of looking, and ways of depicting subjects.

In addition to developing practical skills through hands-on projects the course will also cover some of the history of drawing and contemporary movements in drawing. Students will be encouraged to evaluate and discus the works of established artists, historical examples, their own drawings, and the drawings of other members of the class.
