Da li se setiš / Do you remember?
Memories of Former Yugoslavia

We came together as strangers with a common ground - Former Yugoslavia. Over the course of a year, we developed a bond through sharing stories and images, memories and rituals that came from our homelands, now separate countries.

Da li se setiš calls up intimate memories that expose the sense of loss for the disappearance of a nation, a collective trauma of a war-torn and bloody past. We remember those we had to leave behind. We remember those we love. We remember the ways we celebrate.

By coming together we are repairing old wounds and realise that perhaps to belong to a place is not to belong to a land, or a country, but more to belong to one another.

This exhibition takes place on Gadigal land and we pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging. The artists acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded.
