Film: HORTENSIA Feature | Argentina 2015 | Diego Lublinsky and Alvaro Urtizberea | 90 min | Spanish with English subtitles

Life isn’t going according to plan for 22 year old Hortensia. She has just lost her father to a freak accident involving the kitchen fridge. Her boyfriend is cheating on her with her best friend. And on top of that she has lost her job at a shoe store. Alone, apart from her dog, whose days on this earth are numbered, she finds a memo she wrote at 14: “Goals for Happiness: 1) Marry a boy who is blond like my father; 2) design the most beautiful shoe in the world.” She sets out to achieve her younger self’s game plan. But recipes for happiness often go awry.

Hortensia has been compared to the works of Wes Anderson and has been described as the “Argentinian Amelie”. Diego Lublinsky and Alvaro Urtizberea have crafted a hilariously weird film full of deadpan humour, original characters and a universe where the air of the greater Buenos Aires coexists with the echoes of the Soviet Sixties.

Argentinian bites will be available for purchase.
