In late 2021, we had the pleasure of partnering together with our incredible 107 resident artist Nadeena Dixon. Nadeena is a Gadigal, Bidjigal and Wiradjuri artist cultivating a broad multidisciplinary practice that encompasses traditional and non-traditional textile making, painting, video and animation. As a part of the Boobook Owl Project series Nadeena draws upon her feelings of isolation in lockdown and desire to forge community connections through story-telling and making.

In this work facilitated by 107 Projects, 107 creative packages have been sent out to the local Green Square community. Community members were instructed to make their own guardian Boobook owl to protect their homes and also pensively walk through their local area collecting leaves and organic objects to weave into a patch that would be returned and woven into a larger community piece by Nadeena. This work, now exhibited at 107 Green Square, is a woven patchwork piece featuring community members messages, embroideries, stories and weavings, all woven together by Nadeena and exhibited prominently in the Boobook Owl Project exhibition where it will now live as a commissioned piece.

This exhibition and project aim to highlight the importance of connection to community, country, story-telling, hope and resilience in challenging times. Come gather with us in person and celebrate the joy of local stories and connection through the Boobook Owl Project.

Opening hours

The official launch of this exhibition will take place on the 19th January 2022, from 6pm - 9pm.

However, in exciting news, you are welcome to come visit us and see the project from the 12th of January during our new public opening hours at 107 Green Square. See you there!
