Our entry is for our organisation 107 Projects (107). 107 is a registered charity using creativity and a circular economy to renew and repurpose places in ways that foster social change, and create positive human interactions. Our vision is to combat isolation, loneliness and unaffordability by transforming how people in the arts, business and education engage with communities. We make diverse artistic and cultural participation accessible through public events, community place-making, creative spaces, arts education, public art projects and our social enterprise model. Through a circular economy we are able keep spaces affordable and accessible for artists and communities, while presenting community focussed programs that promote connection and creativity. Our programs and events are designed with circular systems that champion reuse, repurpose and the sharing of resources. In 2019 Hugh McKay AO highlighted the importance of social inclusion as being key to the prosperity of society: “Social interaction builds social cohesion; social cohesion builds social capital; social capital builds strong societies. And compassion is like the high‐octane fuel that drives the machinery of social cohesion.” Creativity is a powerful tool for social change. We aim to be proactive in addressing isolation and issues born from disconnection. By leveraging our network of existing resident artists and organisations across our three sites, we provide opportunities for artists and communities – both financial and development pathways – and anchor our activities with quality, expertise and sustainable practice.
