About Jo

Jo Parkin is a Sydney based painter, collage and object maker. Jo works with the re-imagining of found vintage images by juxtaposing the forms into a new narrative. The process of image selection for background, foreground and midground is lengthy and involves almost endless edits to create a new reality. The modern pastiche that is formed by the traditional cut and paste method brings a new contemporary tableaux to emerge. Jo is committed to using old images that are beyond copyright to create something new and relevant to today. This brings old images into a contemporary context is both a homage and offer of respect to the original artists. The collage created is evocative and allows the viewer to invent their own narrative. Jo Parkin has a Theatrical and Fine Arts background. She is currently employed full time as a senior props maker with Opera Australia.
