A portrait project photographing key people in the music scene. The concept was to photograph a wide range or artist who play, produce or promote music from a diverse range of genres within their creative music related spaces. The title was initially a response to the feeling of my heart beating strongly again, once I was back on home soil (after living in London for a few years prior). It is also an attempt to connect with the people I wanted to photograph, so the original idea was to capture musicians’ creative hearts making beats in their homes or studios. ‘Heart’ also symbolises the emotional connections they have made with their vinyl collections and the high value they place on them as creative inspirations.

I decided to show musicians with their headphones too. Surface differences in these devices make each choice personal, but the fundamental purpose – connecting listener and music – is always the same.

This represents both their different musical paths and their common journey.

The project is an extension from my online blog:http://heartbeatsathome.tumblr.com/
