Joynton Avenue Creative Centre, in partnership with City of Sydney, is bringing a whole day of creative play with ceramics, printmaking, drawing and crafts.

There’ll be free drop-in activities suitable for all experience levels and low cost workshops to learn brand new skills. Limited spots, book in quick!

11:00-4pm: Art Somewhere Creative Hangout - free drop-in

Drop in at anytime to experiment and learn creative practices in a non-structured teaching environment. All levels and abilities are welcome and participants can arrive with a creative intention or choose to be guided by our facilitators. Art materials supplied and you can bring your own project to expand on.

11:00-1:00pm: Ceramics Workshop: Native bee hotel - (limited spots!) - $10

Learn how to sculpt clay as you design and build an inviting home to bring precious native bees to your garden. You’ll learn a range of fun new skills and get to decorate your creation using a variety of surface techniques, and apply tinted underglazes to give it colour, texture and dimension.Your bee hotel will be fired and ready to collect approximately 4 weeks after the workshop. Ages 6+ (children must be accompanied by an adult 18+)

11:30am-1:30pm: Pine St: Drawing Streetscapes - free with RSVP

Get an introduction to drawing with a series of short hands on exercises and learn about line, tone and contour with guest artist Claudia Nicholson. Students will familiarise and immerse themselves in and around Green Square on a short guided walk with the tutor, reflecting on the urban landscape of Green Square, a meeting point of contemporary and traditional Australian architecture. Post walk, working with a range of materials including pencil and charcoal students will create their own unique piece, whilst being exposed to the fundamental image making concepts of line, measurement, perspective and composition. This is an opportunity of students to build their creative confidence and take away basic skills to keep exploring. Ages 16+

12:30pm-1:30pm: Learn to Riso Print - (limited spots!) $25

Learn the art of Risograph printing, a fast, affordable way of producing high-quality prints. You'll learn all the basics of Risograph printing including essential information on colours, layouts and print areas, and then make your own notebooks, collages and paper decorations. All materials are provided.

1:30pm-3:30pm: Ceramics Workshop - Windchimes (limited spots!) $10

Enjoy our creative hand-build 2 hour taster workshop to create a quirky ceramic wind chime. Our experienced tutor you will give practical knowledge and guidance on the properties of clay and how to create a unique wind chime using coil and surface techniques. Students will draw their inspiration from contemporary design.

Your wind chime will be fired and ready to collect from Pine Street approximately 4 weeks after the workshop. Ages 6+ (children must be accompanied by an adult 18+)
