Songlines – real people, real stories
An exhibition of works by artists living in community housing.

Songlines connect communities together across vast distances -  this exhibition brings people together from diverse communities to consider how Aboriginal culture has enriched their lives and can inspire their artwork.  Artists have been asked to map their own journeys and relationships with the land, places, and culture to tell a story about their own “Songlines”.

Curated by Chico Monks, Songlines brings together schooled and unschooled  artists in a celebration of creativity and the strengths we all bring to our personal histories…

Songlines acknowledges that we are all on Aboriginal land and that we all gain strength, knowledge, and inspiration from living in a country with over 60,000 years of Aboriginal history.

Songlines is an initiative of the Bridge Housing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Tenants Advisory Group and Bridge Housing, to celebrate NAIDOC week 2016 and engage with the NAIDOC theme “Songlines- the living narrative of our nation”.  The exhibition is sponsored by Bridge Housing and the City of Sydney.
