107 Presents: gawura guruwin for Sculpture By The Sea 2018

By Nicole Monks in collaboration with Elder Uncle Charles Madden, Kristine Townsend, Teresa Gay and Nhurra (Mob).

Created for Sculpture By The Sea 2018, gawura guruwin celebrated the continuous connection of First Nations people to this land and its oceans. Drawn by Elder Uncle Charles Madden, gawura guruwin was ignited in a sculptural fire engaging the whole community on Friday, October 19th.

Hear the stories

Throughout the gawura guruwin project, we worked with artist Nicole Monks to collect stories from people who had seen, or heard of, a whale shark in the Sydney basin. Listen to the stories here.

Add your story

Sculpture By The Sea may be over, but we’re still looking for stories from people who have some connection to the whale sharks in the Sydney Basin. Whether you’ve seen a shark yourself, know someone who has, or were just touched by the stories, we’d like to hear from you! Contribute your story on the gawura guruwin blog.
