How do I get my music out there?

New Music Network is holding a workshop for prospective entrepreneurs in new and experimental music. Key speakers are Andrew Batt-Rawden, John Davis, Claire Edwardes, Louis Garrick, Cat Hope, Joanne Kee, Paul Mason, James Nightingale and Damien Ricketson.

Venue: 107 Projects Space, 107 Redfern Street, Redfern

This full-day workshop will provide composers, performers, producers and promoters with an introduction to and a fresh perspective on the business-side of new music. The workshop is designed for current students, recent graduates and emerging practitioners in the new music sector. It is presented in association with the Australian Music Centre.

TOPICS AT THE WORKSHOP WILL INCLUDE:

International and Australian landscape for new music.
What do you need to make your performance happen.
Discussion of revenue streams and what the funders are looking for.
Overview of business structures in new music.
Who are the major players.
Physical and digital promotional strategies.
Building a music business from scratch.
KEY SPEAKERS:

Andrew Batt-Rawden is Director of Chronology Arts, Publisher of Limelight Magazine, Director of Bellingen Music Festival and Curator for Vivid at Seymour.

John Davis is CEO of the Australian Music Centre and previous immediate past President of the International Society of Contemporary Music.

Claire Edwardes is Co-Artistic Directors of Ensemble Offspring and leading Australian percussionist.

Louis Garrick is Director of Sydney Chamber Opera, Carriageworks New Music Curator and a musicologist.

Cat Hope is Director of Decibel, Associate Professor at WAAPA and a composer and performer.

Joanne Kee is Director of places + spaces, Artistic Partnerships Manager of SIMA and was previously General Manager of The Song Company and Business Manager of Programming, Sydney Opera House.

Paul Mason is Director of Music at the Australia Council for the Arts. He established and managed Australian Music Radio Airplay Project (AMRAP) and has also been a board member of the Music Council of Australia and was Chair of Music NSW.

James Nightingale is President of the New Music Network, Co-Artistic Director of Continuum Sax, teacher and saxophonist.

Damien Ricketson is a composer, Co-Artistic Director of Ensemble Offspring and a lecturer at the Sydney Conservatorium.
