Johnny Merkouris and Elizabeth McCrystal

Darkroom is a collaborative body of work by photo-media artists, Johnny Merkouris and Elizabeth McCrystal. This mixed media installation explores concepts of Jean Paul Sartre theories on existence. The artists have reconstructed a photographic darkroom as a way of symbolically suggesting elements of the individual's existence.

The artist draw on elements of analogue photography and darkroom processes such as timed exposure and safe lights. A video piece also accompanies the photographic works and is designed to emulate large format, view cameras where the audience must interact with the piece in order to see the work. Through the video the artists wish to mimic the idea of "life flashing before one's eyes" while also suggesting the incoherent nature of one's incomplete and fracture memory.

Opening Wednesday 30 April 6-8pm

Exhibition Continues until Sunday 4 May
