Kick-start the New Year with Eklecto Mini Festival

As we get set to head into a break, four 107 locals are already working behind the scenes to bring you our first big event of 2018: Eklecto Mini Festival.

Eklecto is the brainchild of bar manager Jeremy Thomas, Hack Sounds producer Liz Martin, stage manager Dylan Regtop and MC/DJ Mark Cameron. With a wealth of experience in the Sydney music scene, the team have plenty to offer.

Featuring live music from a carefully curated set of emerging and established talent, including Deepchild and Lilly and Rose, DJ sets from Analog Cabin, Lloyd Ingram & more, activities for the kids and a family-friendly performance by Indigenous storyteller Gumaroy, Eklecto has something for everyone – and there’s plenty more to be announced.

For a look behind the scenes, Hack Sounds will be presenting a talk from Melbourne producer Deepchild on his process and kit, plus interactive gear workshops with music tech outfit Roland.

The Performance Space, facilitated by Dylan, will be an eclectic mix of folk and experimental music, with performances from Cloudbird, Pyjama Sam, Liz Martin & more.

Park the kids at the pram-friendly activity corner in the downstairs gallery, where they’ll be able to get creative with dress ups and crafty activities while you grab a coffee and kick back in the cafe.

Meanwhile the rooftop garden will be a summer oasis, with DJ sets and a dumpling bar serving up Aperol Spritz and cold Mountain Goat Beer.

We’re also excited to welcome storyteller, poet and Yidaki (didgeridoo) Master Gumaroy Newman, who will be giving a special performance in the kids gallery. Finally, the whole evening will finish up with a performance from 5-piece big band Red Frogs to get you grooving.

“We’ll be looking forward to activating all corners of 107 with an eclectic selection of culture where everybody can feel welcome,” says Jeremy.

All proceeds from the event will go towards 107’s year-round creative program, as well as developing our newest creative space at Joynton Avenue, Green Square. 107 is a registered not-for-profit, with a mission to improve communities by encouraging people to live creatively.
